Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's USB gadget configfs component. This out-of-bounds read vulnerability occurs when the os_desc_qw_sign_show() function incorrectly handles string length during conversion. A local attacker could potentially exploit this to read sensitive information from memory, leading to information disclosure through the configfs attribute.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Moderate because exploitation is limited to a local out-of-bounds read of kernel memory within the gadget configuration structure and cannot be triggered remotely. In typical Red Hat Enterprise Linux server environments, USB gadget mode is neither active nor configured by default, as it requires dedicated USB peripheral controller hardware and elevated privileges to set up gadget endpoints via configfs. As a result, exposure is largely restricted to specialized environments, such as embedded or automotive platforms, where USB gadget functionality is actively deployed.
CVSS score applicability
The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options don't meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base or stability.
