Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's memory cgroup (memcg) functionality. When a memory cgroup is shut down, its memory usage accounting is incorrectly copied instead of being moved to its parent cgroup. This leaves behind phantom counters that cause the system to waste resources by repeatedly scanning empty lists and over-allocating memory for internal tracking. This can lead to significant performance degradation and a denial of service (DoS) due to inefficient resource management.
