Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel. A race condition in the ARM64 page-table walk routine occurs when inspecting memory mappings without proper synchronization while interrupts remain enabled. A local user can trigger this flaw during concurrent memory cleanup operations, causing the kernel to access invalid or freed memory. This issue can lead to a system crash, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS).
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Moderate impact because exploitation requires local access on 64-bit ARM (aarch64) systems and is restricted to causing a kernel crash (denial of service), with no impact on data confidentiality or integrity. The issue occurs when fault diagnostics inspect task memory mappings while memory cleanup is taking place concurrently. Systems running on other hardware architectures are not affected.
CVSS score applicability
The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options don't meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base or stability.
