Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's drm/xe graphics driver. When a graphics device becomes unresponsive (wedged) and execution queues are terminated, the driver fails to retain the wedged status during cleanup. A local user could exploit this flaw during driver unbinding to trigger an unexpected kernel warning, resulting in a tainted kernel and potentially leading to a Denial of Service (DoS) if the system is configured to panic on warnings.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Low severity because triggering it requires local system access, specific Intel graphics hardware utilizing the Xe driver, and an unbind operation while the GPU is already in an unresponsive state. Under default configurations, this condition merely emits a non-fatal kernel warning that taints the running system without compromising integrity or confidentiality. A denial of service is limited to environments where the kernel is explicitly configured to treat warnings as fatal panics.
