Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's Btrfs file system. A race condition occurs between background read I/O completion and extent buffer cache invalidation during unmount operations because read status flags are cleared outside of the reference count lock. A local user performing file system operations could trigger this flaw, causing unexpected kernel warnings and potentially leading to a Denial of Service (DoS) on systems configured to halt on warnings.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Low severity because triggering it requires local access and typically produces only a false kernel warning, causing a denial of service exclusively on systems configured to panic on warnings. Furthermore, the Btrfs file system is unsupported in Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and default enterprise kernels do not contain the affected code. There is no threat to system confidentiality or data integrity.
