Description
A flaw was found in libXtst. An out-of-bounds read vulnerability in the RECORD extension reply parser allows a malicious X server to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by crashing connected client applications. Under certain conditions, this flaw may also result in limited information disclosure.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as an Important severity flaw because an untrusted display server can terminate client processes and potentially disclose memory contents without requiring prior authentication. In typical Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments, client applications connect exclusively to trusted local X11 or Xwayland sessions, significantly limiting exposure under standard configurations. Risk is predominantly present when users configure graphical applications to connect to untrusted remote displays or establish unvalidated remote X forwarding sessions.
CVSS score applicability
The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.
