Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's InfiniBand hfi1 driver. Incorrect memory offset calculations and Direct Memory Access (DMA) buffer handling during credit-return memory mapping can lead to corrupted page tables or communication stalls. A local user with access to the hfi1 device could exploit this vulnerability to crash the operating system, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS).
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as having Moderate impact for Red Hat Enterprise Linux because exploitation requires local access and the presence of specialized Intel Omni-Path (hfi1) InfiniBand hardware. Systems without this specific interconnect fabric are unaffected, and typical unprivileged user accounts do not have direct access to the underlying character device nodes. While a local attacker with access to the hfi1 interface could cause a kernel oops or hang resulting in denial of service, the prerequisite physical hardware and local access requirements significantly limit exposure.
CVSS score applicability
The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options don't meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base or stability.
