Description

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) Soft-iWARP (siw) driver. A race condition occurs during connection handling if modifying a queue pair fails, releasing an internal lock before error cleanup completes. A local attacker could exploit this timing window through concurrent connection state modifications to trigger a use-after-free condition, resulting in a system crash and Denial of Service (DoS).

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as Moderate impact because successful exploitation requires local unprivileged access combined with precise timing to win a high-complexity race condition during queue pair state transitions. Furthermore, the Soft-iWARP network driver is not loaded by default in standard Red Hat Enterprise Linux deployments and is only utilized in environments explicitly configured for software-based RDMA over TCP/IP. In environments where this module is in active use, exploitation could result in a denial of service or potential kernel memory corruption.

CVSS score applicability

The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.

Mitigation

Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options don't meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base or stability.
