Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's HugeTLB (Huge Translation Lookaside Buffer) subsystem. This flaw allows a local user to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by triggering the dissolution of gigantic memory pages that lack runtime support. Because the kernel fails to verify runtime support before freeing these pages, a failure during memory restoration corrupts the HugeTLB free list and crashes the system.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Moderate for Red Hat Enterprise Linux because successful exploitation requires local administrative privileges to trigger memory offlining or deallocation of gigantic huge pages, limiting the blast radius to local denial of service. Systems in standard enterprise deployments do not expose memory management interfaces to unprivileged users, significantly restricting attack vectors. Consequently, an unprivileged local attacker or remote adversary cannot exploit this flaw under default configurations.
