Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's kprobes subsystem. A privileged local user could trigger improper synchronization when disabling or flushing probe optimization, causing the process to hang indefinitely while holding an internal lock. This issue can make administrative interfaces unresponsive, leading to a Denial of Service (DoS).
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as having Moderate impact because exploitation requires administrative privileges (CAP_SYS_ADMIN) to modify kernel debug sysctl parameters, restricting the blast radius to a localized denial of service. The underlying synchronization flaw was introduced in recent upstream kernel releases, and supported Red Hat Enterprise Linux releases do not incorporate the affected logic.
