Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's automount file system (autofs). A local user can trigger this issue by initiating an autofs mount operation that fails during initialization, causing the kernel to fail to release associated pipe file references. Repeated exploitation can permanently leak system resources, ultimately leading to a Denial of Service (DoS).
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as having a Low impact because triggering the resource leak requires elevated privileges to perform filesystem mount actions, restricting the attack vector to administrative users. Successful exploitation only results in gradual consumption of kernel pipe references without compromising system integrity or data confidentiality. Consequently, standard multi-user enterprise deployments are not at significant risk of unauthorized compromise.
